Brunswick
A volunteer rescue squad, born of this community and answering to it — the accredited primary rescue unit for the Byron Shire.
In 1977, a fatal crash on the Brunswick River bridge showed our community it needed rescuers of its own. Locals stepped forward, trained, and built a squad from nothing.
Nearly fifty years on, we're the accredited primary rescue unit for the Byron Shire — freeing people from wrecks, lifting them off cliffs, and holding the line through floods and storms.
Tradespeople, teachers, retirees, students — our members come from every corner of the Shire. What they share is a willingness to give their time and stand beside their neighbours on the hardest days.
Everyone trains fortnightly and is accredited to the same State Rescue Board standards as every VRA squad in the state.
Brunswick Rescue is part of VRA Rescue NSW — volunteers who are primary responders for rescue right across the state.
